    Introduction

    Green Moles were contracted to repair this domestic toilet line. The pipe was badly damaged and leaking. Initially the technicians did not consider coating because the damage was so bad, but the option of lining or patching was also looking problematic due to limited access through multiple bends. The team decided to use the Picote Xpress Coating System owing to the greater thickness of the resin coverage.

    The Process

    The project was a repair on a leaking toilet pipe that was DN100 (4”), PVC, 3m (10 ft) in length. The pipe so severely damaged that initial inspections determined rehabilitation would be extremely difficult if not impossible with CIPP lining or patch repair due to limited access including multiple bends to get to the repair area.

    It was decided that the Picote Xpress Coating System would be used, and the pump was set up in a patio area. The toilet was on the first floor but thanks to the 40m (131 ft) of hose on the hose reel the hoses were able to be pulled up to the first floor while leaving the equipment in the patio area.

    The first coating layer covered 50% of the breakage and the second coat repaired 80%. By the third coat the entire damaged area was fully covered. A fourth layer was added for increased strength and structural integrity.

    Total project time on site was completed in one day (6.5 hours) including pipe cleaning/surface preparation, coating, and cleanup.

    Xpress Coating System

    The heart of the system is the innovative Xpress Coating Pump featuring dual hydraulic resin cylinders for the new 1: 1, single colour epoxy. It has a built-in extended life battery and internal resin heater providing several hours of working time (it can also be operated while charging). The system also includes a motorized Delivery Hose Reel with 131 feet (40m) of delivery hose allowing for easier setup, movement and storage.
